I work as an employee paid on straight commission, and I pay 100% of my expenses. (car, gas, no overnight travel) The IRS allows me to deduct $.405 to $.485 per mile. My mileage adds up to about $20,000 for the year. I want to take this deduction, and also the standard deduction for family expenses. Some people can use the 2106 form to adjust income, others, "statutory employees" can use sched C, both ways still allow the standard deduction. I do not fit the exact description of Statutory emp, although my situation is very close to that of a life insurance salesperson, (which specifically qualifies as Statutory) I just sell a different product. I want to take all my expenses of earning a living, but not itemize personal, as I don't have enough documented to equal the standard ded. Is there a way to take my mileage expenses and standard ded?
