"I've missed over 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot . . . and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan - born 1963 is a retired American professional basketball player and active businessman.
Facts
James Naismith, a teacher at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, is credited with inventing basketball in 1891.
The first “hoops” were actually just peach baskets and the first backboards were made of wire. Each time they made a basket the referee would climb on a ladder and get the ball (which was a soccer ball at that time) The game became an official Olympic event at the Summer Games in Berlin, Germany in 1936.
