Poem about world war I by Sassoon includes a phrase about 'the best of hotels' - I remember this as a highly moving indictment of the brass living high on the hog while the plebs were killed. Does anyone know the poem's title or have indeed the full text? - thanks

Recently, I read a book

WALKING ON WATER

(Black American Lives)

By RANDALL KENAN.

I know he also wrote,

A visitation of spirits

And a collection of stories,

Let The Dead Bury Their Dead

I also know that he was awarded many prizes, the most recent being, the, American Academy's Prix de Rome.

Has he written anything else?

I haven't come across it if he has...

I would be interested to know if you are aware of his work.

Thank you, Rhea Juliana

What writer wrote how, after watching her struggle with a sticky refrigerator door, her young daughter asked why not just open it with magic.

So she had another cup of coffee, lit another cigarette, thought about it for a while, and then wrote a story about children opening a stuck refrigerator with magic.

When she sold the story to a magazine she was able to buy a new refrigerator.

Then she says: 'That is what I would like to talk about now - the practical application of magic'.

Stephen King wrote a series of novellas called Different Seasons that included Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil, The Body, and The Breathing Method. In The Body, the main character is a writer, and he explains how he "sold the book and they made a major movie out of it." He also says they did the same with the second book, and even the third. I am just a little confused. Is it just coincidence that the first three novellas were made into major motion pictures, as his character explains? Shawshank Redemption was a major blockbuster, Apt Pupil... Not so much, but Stand By Me (bases on The Body) was extremely big just as Shawshank. Did King go into the story later and include this last chapter after the movies were made, or is he just that good, that he knew the first three novellas in Different Seasons would be hit movies? I guess I'm just missing something...

Hello! I attended elementary school beginning in 1976, and I remember reading some great stories that I would love to read to my own kids. There was one story that I remember fondly about a knight who was given a secret word to slay dragons with. He became the greatest dragon slayer with this magic word, only it turned out it was not a magic word at all. Upon learning the truth, the knight went to fight a dragon without his protective magic word and never returned. Does anyone know where I could find this story, and what story it is? Who wrote it? etc?

I wrote to you last week with a question and have not had a reply so I thought I would try asking again. I have a book which was made and written in the year 1688 called The Diary Office of Christian. It is on the life of William Laud who was the Arch Bishop of Canterbury in England. It was published by Robert Vincent in 1688. I would like to know if this book has any value and if it has who would I contact about it.

My English teacher told us that in the church in which William Shakespeare is buried, the floor is old and dilapidated, so you can't walk on it to see his grave. Instead, they have mirrors set up so that you can stand outside, on a lower level, and still see the marker for the grave. Is this true?

I came across a beautiful book which I founded useful to reprint it to preserve its contents and information. The book was not copyrighted, however, it said that if there would be a desire to reprint any part of the book or the entire book, the written permission should be sent to the publisher.

My question is as followed:

The book was published in 1935-37. I doubt if the publisher still exists. How do I find the publisher's existence? By now, the author (s) has long been dead. It would be the same as for the publisher or the publishing company.
