I am owed 23 hours work from a employment agency from june/july, each time I have spoken to them, they claim they have lost the time sheets and basically brushed me off, telling me they are trying to sort the problem out. In the meantime I've had to resort to using my credit card as a result of this. Thanks George

I just got fired... for having the flu. I took the past 4 days off from work and they called me to tell me that I'm no longer needed. They said it wasn't just my absence, but my performance as well. But I got a 99.2 out of a possible 100 on my last evaluation. Should I sue them?

I took a job through an agency (driving) it was for a week and a bit... The boss asked me to stay on in a permanent position. She asked me not to let the agency know as she would have to pay extra money to them to employ me. I needed the job so agreed. At the start I was told (by the agency)I would be paid £6.15 ph plus time and a half over-time for anything over 40 hours. My boss has never said any different. Now I find out she will only pay me 40 hours a week and no more. So all the over-time I have put in is for free ?. Is she allowed to do this ?

I need advice on a couple of points regarding redundancy...

1. I've been at current job for 10 months and although I know I'm not entitled to redundancy payout, am I entitled to severance pay ?

2. If you are made redundant am I right in saying that your employer cannot re-advertise your job for a period of 3 or 6 months as they cannot be seen to replace you - the reason for redundancy is that your job no longer exists.

In my case where I work there are 3 solicitors, 1 of them (Mark) has 2 secretaries the other 2 have a secretary each.. In all there are 4 secretaries split between them. My boss Mark is staying at our branch so therefore me and his other secretary's job still exist...but what they've done is made me and her redundant and moved the other solicitors secretaries over to Mark to replace us because she is moving office and the 3rd solicitor got made redundant as well, so therefore her secretary is not needed. I don't think this is right is it ? As my boss is still there then his 2 secretarial positions still exist, can they do what they've done and push us out and replace us with the other 2 ?? what rights do I have to fight this or can I get compensation or what is my position. I'm obviously very angry and upset and don't believe they can get away with this can they ?? Please advise as soon as possible.

Thanx - Lynn

Miss June Tracy
I'm a 20 year old entering my second year of college. However, I'm very unhappy in the college setting and have always felt it just wasn't something that was made for me. I have a goal to become a certified yoga instructor and open my own studio, and I can do so in a year-long intensive program at a yoga studio in Minneapolis. I don't need a degree to do this program and my current major is Philosophy (so it wouldn't do much good anyway). My mother thinks the best option for me is to go to Minneapolis and start on my career right away. She believes me to be ready. My dad, however, has been pushing for me to get a degree very hard, and he is immensely attached to my school and the soccer playing that I do there. I can barely approach him about it. I don't know what to do--return to college for three years and push through it to get a degree, or do something big for myself for the first time in my life and go to yoga school. I don't want to disappoint anyone, but I also feel like I'm living for other people all the time. I would miss my soccer team very much, but I'm also losing my love for the game. I just can't seem to get everything worked out in order to make my decision, both have their ups and downs, and I feel I really need a objective third or fourth party to help me out. If you could, I would be very grateful at this vital time in my life.

Career dilemma- right, 6 months ago I left a job that I had been doing for the past three years, for the same job but with another company. The new job pays a lot better and is only ten minutes from home. I had no problems with my last job at all, I loved the people and the place and everything. The only reason I really left was for money and because of how close it is to my home. Also, I couldn't see a career in it for me, as the manager there had been there for ever and showed no sign of ever leaving- leaving no where for me to move up to, anyway, I have received a call from my old company telling me that my x boss is leaving and that they have a proposition for me, which involves some sort of senior position, but not manager. Kind of assistant manager. They think very highly of me and want me back. Money would be the same, if not a bit more.

I don't know what to do. I like both company's just as much. however, I enjoy the company of my old colleagues more, and I'm working longer hours at my new job, but it will be take me 30 mins to get to work as opposed to 10. I don't want to feel like I've let my new company down, but I also don't want to miss a good career opportunity. If anyone can offer any kind of advice, I would be most grateful. Am I best to stick it out here, or go back to my roots?

Can you tell me the law with regards to Doctors' medical sick notes. I understood that if you were ill you don't need a doctors note for the first 5 days. You could self sign yourself of work for the first week and any time needed after that you would need a doctors certificate to take back to your firm? Is this correct ?
