An American newspaper all of a sudden started making many spelling mistakes. What was the explanation they gave?

The paper had been operating for many years without spelling errors. Also there was no change in staff. After the mistakes started, staff was changed but the problem continued. Later on the newspaper gave the reason/explanation for the errors.

My dad said that on TV (probably few years or more ago) was a press conference. I don't know exactly words they were saying. Something like reporter ask politician some question and politician said like : Who told you that?. And reporter said : You did. (Reporter vs politician 1:0) And later again the same reporter ask another question for this politician, and politician said : Did I said that too?. Reporter said: No, Hitler said it?

Well, these are not exactly words of conversation. I would like to know if anybody knows who was this politician (maybe some president) or reporter, what year and where can I find original conversation on the internet.
