Did you know snowflakes are always six sided and it is thought that no two are ever the same. The shape and form of a snowflake depends on the temperature and amount of moisture within the cloud. Snowflakes can be divided into six main shapes, stars, column, plate (flat), needle, dendrite (lacy) and capped column. When it is very cold the snow is very fine and powdery and the snowflakes are quite simple in design, normally needle or rod shaped. When the temperature is closer to freezing point (0 degrees Celsius), the snowflakes are much larger and more complex in design, such as a star.

Why do Australian seasons start on the 1st of the month? Australians start the change of season on the 1st of the month. Summer 1st December, Autumn 1st March, Winter 1st June, Spring 1st September. Many countries (especially Northern hemisphere) start their seasons on the equinox or solstice dates. Why is Australia different? Did we ever have our seasons dates start mid-month or did the First Fleet dictate the 1st of the month? If we started mid-month when did it change to the 1st of the month?

We often drive within England from the South East to the South West. It's striking that when we reach the Salisbury plain in the evening, the level of light changes. It seems that east of there, is much darker than west of it. Is this reflection of the Atlantic ocean? Is this a trick of the eye due to the 'curving' of the earth? We've discussed this a lot, but can't work it out.. Any ideas?

Is there any CONCENSUS on how a ball of plasma (ball lightning?) can enter an aircraft in flight at the flight deck, float erratically down the centre isle and exit somewhere at the rear of the aircraft without losing its integrity and without 'grounding' on the metallic structure of the aircraft and thereby releasing its charge? If so, what does present informed opinion say about it? Worp

Mr Anthony Hopkins
Hi Could anyone please tell me why the air rotates around a low pressure anti-clockwise and around a high pressure clockwise in the northern hemisphere given that they are both subject to the same Coriolis force direction. Having looked at various diagrams, they show air entering a low pressure at the area of convergence and being bent to the left to create the anti clockwise rotation. This would seem to go against the whole idea of the Coriolis force and its affect on bending fluids to the right in the northern hemisphere. Obviously high pressure system rotation would seem to be much easier to explain. Any help much appreciated. Tony
