Scenario:

You are sitting at a bar, a bar you usually feel comfortable in, you order your drinks and all of a sudden you start to feel a little uneasy, you then realize there is a guy near by who has obviously had too much to drink and is staring at your girlfriend with a look in his eye that tells you he is a trouble maker and it won't be too long before he starts. What is the best course of action for you to take as you really don’t want a confrontation with a guy like this? Is there a text book way for dealing with awkward situations such as this?

I would like some advice as what to do in a scenario such as this. Its late at night, your lift home has let you down. You head to the nearest taxi rank but whilst walking up the street (you are already about half way up the street) a group of thugs start walking down from the top of the street towards you. Your intuition tells you by the way the thugs are behaving that you could be in trouble (one of them may have kicked in a car windscreen for eg) So you find yourself in this unfortunate position where as walking towards them seems like stupidity, but turning around to walk or run down the street in the opposite direction or crossing over the road would make it obvious to the thugs that you are trying to keep away from them, there fore highlighting the fact you could be prey for them. I realise this a tough one but would appreciate any practical advice I could bare in mind if this happened for real?
