I have a favourite home video, when played, on some parts of the video, the picture goes a bit distorted and the general quality of the picture is poor. Is there a service available that specialises in restoring old and damaged videos?

Not necessarily fixing it completely, but anybody with a little bit of digital video knowledge can help you clean it up and copy it over to a digital format like DVD that will not degrade further, that way you can make sure it lasts longer for you and treasure your old favorite tape!

There are services which are aimed at getting old films and VHS tapes onto DVD. This would be wise as your tape can only get worse. The people involved would probably be in the best position to put right any technical shortcomings in the process of making up a DVD for you - a DVD being far more permanent, get 2 copies!

I would peruse Yellow pages and classified ads and local ads for this service. Question them closely about their ability to get the technical problems addressed and make it plain that is why you are doing it. That way they are legal bound by any promises they make. If they wont promise, don't use them!
