I have 38 first day covers (UK) from 1977 - 1982 all in excellent condition. The only set that haven't got the post mark on them is the Queens Silver Jubilee set but are stamp hinged on the original envelope.

I used to collect stamps as a child and am just wondering what there value may be now and what first day cover during this period is the most collectible?

Is the Silver Jubilee set worth more with a post mark on them or with out? Thanks

Sorry for the delay in replying

I regret that I am the bearer of bad tidings - your FDC collection is virtually worthless. You may find a local stamp dealer who might be persuaded to give you £20 for the lot.

Alternatively you could try selling them on eBay - again sell them as a lot-individually the listing fees would wipe out your income.

For years (and to date) the GPO and Royal Mail unscrupulously "milked" the unsuspecting public who believed that there was money to be made from acquiring and holding FDCs and related items like PHQ cards. These are regarded by the stamp trade and philatelists as "souvenirs" with no philatelic status. You are just one of hundreds of thousands who have fallen into their trap.

Right having vented my spleen I would say to you you may want to consider keeping them - although they have no philatelic status they are attractive and give good amounts of historical perspective.

With regard to your question on the Silver Jubilee issue I assume the one you refer to is the 1977 QEII one - they are identically catalogued as mint and used but again I am afraid have no commercial value. The GV 1934 issue is slightly better used but again, although saleable will not make you rich.
